Our Mission

The mission of our PTA is to provide support to LMS faculty and staff by raising money through student and parent driven fundraisers, such as Wrapping Paper, Carnival, Lookout Mountain Directory, and the Annual Fund. These efforts ensure the continuation of related arts programs, lower student/teacher ratios and curriculum enrichment.

A hard copy of the student handbook is available in the School Office and details expectations, policies, and procedures for the current school year.

PTA Board Positions

Descriptions of LMS PTA Board and Appointed Positions:

Executive Board
Attends all Executive, Board and General Membership Meetings

Vice President
Automatically becomes President the next year. Serves as a member of the Nominating Committee and the Annual Fund Committee.  Handles general meeting publicity.   Prepares LMS Annual Report and assists President as needed.

Handles and oversees all financial transactions related to PTA business. Disburses all monies, keeps an accurate record of receipts and expenditures and prepares monthly budget.

Assistant Treasurer
Automatically becomes Treasurer the next year. Assists Treasurer in all financial transactions related to PTA business, responsible for documentation and deposit of all monies received.

Records all minutes at required meetings, handles necessary correspondence, maintains a list of PTA members and handles collection of dues.

PTA Board
Attends all Board Meetings and General Membership Meetings

Fall Fundraiser/Boosterthon – Chair/Co-Chair
Organizes, publicizes and oversees Fall Fundraiser. Co-Chair automatically becomes Chair the next year.

Carnival – 2 Chairpersons
Oversees and implements planning of annual carnival. Solicits volunteers and organizes committees. Summer planning required.

White Elephant Sale – 2 Chairpersons
Oversees and implements planning of annual sale. Historically, has been in Fall, but may be moved to Spring 2015.

Night Out for Lookout – 2 Chairpersons
Oversees and implements planning of annual auction event. Solicits volunteers, organizes committees, and procures contributions.

Annual Fund – Chair/Co-Chair
Implements ideas and plans for Annual Fund Campaign each year. Co-chair becomes Chair the next year.

Website Manager
Works with teachers and PTA to keep website updated.

Hospitality – 2 positions
Plans teacher breakfast, teacher appreciation luncheon, new parent welcome event, graduation and other special events that may arise.

Oversees library volunteers and may organize LMS Book Fair.

House and Grounds
Responsible for LMS grounds such as planters on front steps, Christmas decorations and landscaping items not covered under lawn care contract.

Public Relations
Writes monthly article for Mountain Mirror sharing the “happenings” at LMS.  Collect information for, assemble and distribute weekly Lookout Ledger email to parents.

Volunteer Coordinator
Creates a list of those willing to help, recruits room mothers, volunteers for field day and various other events throughout the year needing volunteers.

Telephone Directory – Chair/Co-chair
Organizes publication of Lookout Mtn. Telephone Directory. Solicits advertisements and lays out publication for print. Coordinates the sale of the directory at school events and with local merchants. Directory published every 2 years. Co-chair automatically becomes Chair the next year.

Yearbook – Chair/Co-chair
Oversees picture taking, layout, publication and sale of LMS yearbook. Co-chair automatically becomes Chair the next year.

Appointed Positions
Attends all General Membership Meetings and Committee Meetings

Coupon Books – Chair/Co-chair
Oversees Hamilton County Coupon Book Sale in early Fall.  Gathers prizes, holds coupon book kick-off, etc. Co-Chair automatically becomes Chair the next year.

Designs/creates/produces/sells LMS clothing, water bottles, bags and other merchandise.

Mini-Fundraiser – Chair
Coordinates BoxTop fundraising campaign, Chunks of Change and/or any other smaller school fundraisers.

Grandparents’ Day – Chair
Coordinates Grandparents’ Day – held every other year in the Spring.  Next Grandparents’ Day – Spring 2017.

Alumni Development
Maintains alumni database. Works closely with Annual Fund and Website Manager to discuss ways to include LMS alumni in events and campaigns.
